San Diego Monastery

  

The San Diego Monastery, a branch of the Vedanta Society of Southern California, is located near Balboa Park, at 1440 Upas Street. It holds Sunday lectures, evening classes, and meditation and vesper services.

 

Featured Items

Summer Recess and Krisha Puja — The Monastery will be closed from July 1st through mid-September, except for Krisha Puja and its accompanying Karma Yoga Day. Please call to arrange visits during the Summer recess.

Karma Yoga Day — Saturday, August 27th. Details to be announced.

Krishna Puja — Sunday, August 28th. The puja will be performed by Swami Sarvadevananda followed by a wonderful program including two short talks and a multimedia presentation, and, of course, Prasad lunch. See details under Special Events, below.

Most recently added is that of Swami Suhitananda, General Secretary of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. He spoke on Sri Srada Devi, the mother of the Ramakrishna movement. San Diego Vedanta also has videos, which you will enjoy, such as those featuring Father Michael Fish.

Spiritual Cafe at San Diego Vedanta — Come and join discussions designed to explore ways of spiritualizing everyday life.  The Spiritual Cafe’ engages all in an interactive format that brings about the sharing of various ideas regarding the monthly topic. The date and topic for the next Cafe will be announced. 

Article — An article on Swami Vivekananda — Swami Vivekananda; pop star of his time discusses the 19th century swami who influenced Rockefeller, Tesla, and J.D. Salinger.

Vedanta Sara: the Basics of Advaita Vedanta is an informal class to understand and reflect on the principles and practices of Advaita Vedanta. If you are interested in joining, you may sign up at the monastery or talk with Swami Harinamananda.

You are invited to enjoy evenings of spiritual exploration, discussions, music, and/or multimedia presentations. Prior to these main events, Arati (Vespers) is conducted at 6:00 pm, and frequently there is a potluck before the talk begins.

Weekend Group Worship & Spiritual Talks 

10:00 am:  All are welcome to share in a guided group worship in the shrine room, preceding most Sunday lectures. Please note: this worship may be suspended when there is a special program or when the resident swami is away.

11:00 am:  Please plan to join us for enriching lectures and Q&A that focus on spiritual matters which impact our daily lives and our highest aspirations. Talks begin at 11:00 am unless otherwise noted.
