The San Diego Monastery, a branch of the Vedanta Society of Southern California, is located near Balboa Park, at 1440 Upas Street. It holds Sunday lectures, evening classes, and meditation and vesper services.

Vedanta: A Universal Spiritual Approach to Life (Six-part Course)

Time: 6:15 pm – 8:00 pm

Prior to class,  Arati (Vespers) starts at 5:00 pm.

Sessions:  11/07,   11/14,    11/28,    12/05,    12/12,    12/19

Objective: To learn the basic Eastern principles and practices of Vedanta philosophy helping to deepen our spiritual awareness.

Course Outline: The course consists of six sessions:

11/07  Session 1:  Vedanta 101 – explaining the meaning and essence of Vedanta.

11/14  Session 2:  Making the Inner Journey – understanding the essence of who we really are.

11/28  Session 3:  The Mystery of God – how Vedanta explains it.

12/05  Session 4:  Jnana Yoga – practices & and experiences following the path of  internal enquiry.

12/12  Session 5:  Bhakti Yoga – practices and experiences following the path of love and devotion.

12/19  Session 6:   Maintaining Our Well-being – exploring how the Vedantic thoughts and practices can help us to maintain a healthy balance between our inner and outer life.

Please note these important details:

–Each session is approximately 1.5 hours long and will include a lecture, group discussion and Q & A.

–Reading material that also includes major question addressed in each session will be provided.

You are invited to attend Evening Arati with silent meditation at 6:00 pm.


Weekend Group Worship & Spiritual Talks 

10:00 am:  All are welcome to share in a guided group worship in the shrine room, preceding most Sunday lectures. Please note: this worship may be suspended when there is a special program or when the resident swami is away.

11:00 am:  Please plan to join us for enriching lectures and Q&A that focus on spiritual matters which impact our daily lives and our highest aspirations. Talks begin at 11:00 am unless otherwise noted.
